On Saturday, June 6, the heart of Rotterdam will transform into a place of stillness with Silent Sky Project #97 by artist Rob Sweere. In front of Laurenskerk, one of the city’s oldest landmarks, initiator Wibo van Gennip invites everyone to come together and make a powerful statement for more calm in our fast-paced society.
The concept is simple yet striking: lie silently on the ground for 30 minutes and gaze up at the endless sky above the city. Around the world, this project has already moved thousands of people, and now it comes to Rotterdam to experience “calm within the commotion” firsthand. It reconnects the people of Rotterdam with the timeless quote by Desiderius Erasmus: “Make haste slowly.”
Major institutions such as Erasmus MC, the university, and the library support the project, but above all, it depends on your participation. This is your chance to step away from the pressure of daily life, reflect on the value of rest, and become part of a living artwork that restores the connection between yourself and your surroundings.
