Tradition Meets Technology
For King’s Day in Doetinchem, Mothership collaborated with policymakers and the King’s Day team on the theme of Tradition and Innovation. The Achterhoek region is not only rich in heritage, but also ranks remarkably high in patents—just behind Eindhoven and Delft.
We linked the traditional royal shooting game (koningsschieten) with contemporary technology: wooden birds, usually handcrafted, were now designed using AI. The city’s decorations and flags were also partially created with the help of AI.
The royal route led through a specially designed coulisse landscape, created by our green partner Nico Wissing. This temporary transformation of what was once dubbed “the ugliest street in Doetinchem” made a lasting impression—even on King Willem-Alexander himself, who said he would love to walk the route again.
