The skateable artwork Twist & Shout by Martand Khosla from New Delhi, was recently opened with a skatextravaganza. In 2010, Showroom MAMA organized ‘Reclaiming the Street’, an international contest for ideas in which participants were asked to design an art object that was also skateable. Twist & Shout exceeded everybody’s expectations, because it was so darned simple, so darned effective, and in all its simplicity of form possessed such a wonderfully powerful sculptural beauty. The ramp was designed so as to afford the skateboarder the greatest possible challenge in conquering it – and that has now proven to be just the case!
The realization of Twist & Shout was made possible in part by the City of Rotterdam, the Centre for Visual Art and the DOEN foundation. Commissioned by Showroom MAMA, Mothership acted as the producer.
