Standard Time

Mark Formanek

At Rotterdam Central Station (NL) a “digital” clock was shown for 24 hours from 27 November to 28 November, which was meticulously kept by a total of 36 workers. Each minute was carefully adjusted. The clock, circa 4 meters tall en 12 meters wide, stood on the location where in some years the new station will arise. The clock was part of a scaffolding construction, which made the whole 7 meters tall, 7 meters depth and 14 meters wide. The performance was recorded on film and will be shown in Rotterdam throughout the city. The film will be precisely on time, which makes it a real clock for the people to check the time. Standard Time is an artwork by Mark Formanek commissioned by Bureau Binnenstad (City of Rotterdam). With thanks to Rotterdam Festivals and Rotterdam Centraal (NS, Prorail and Randstadrail)
