The Holland Casino in Enschede is located at the new Koningsplein (King’s Square) and has a underground parking garage shared with the new hospital. The Casino’s building looks like a fortress; not exactly inviting…Underground nothing indicates the presence of a casino full of games and fun.
Mothership was asked to create the concept for an art work that draws attention and attracts potential guests to the casino. We invited graphic illustrator Calvin Sprague to develop a sparkling design for both entries (parking garage and square).
For the parking garage Calvin designed a procession of card players’ fun, on 110 meters of glass wall along the conveyor belt that transports guests to the entry. King, queen and jack, all having fun in a James Bond retro style. Playing, food and drinks, live music, meeting people, winning….all this surrounded by classic cars and local symbols like lions, windmills and horses.
At the entry in the square guests are being welcomed in style by two Queens of hearts and two Kings of clubs. These signs (12 meters high) reveal the Casino for what it is: a classy meeting place. Rien en va plus!
