The garage located underneath Schouwburgplein needed a small make-over. But a garage on a creative hub in the middle of the city center needed a little more attention than just a lick of paint. Bureau Binnenstad saw its chance and asked occasional artist duo Ephameron and Studio Ruwe Data to create a design that honors the location.
For the work REFLECT the creativity of the site was taken as a starting point. Schouwburgplein houses many creative businesses. This includes institutions such as de Doelen, the Rotterdamse Schouwburg and Pathé but also less notable institutions such as the organization of Film Festival Rotterdam and Codarts, university of arts, are housed here. In other words, the Schouwburgplein breathes culture. The painting in the garage therefore contains graphic references to dance, music, shopping, culture, film and theater. All things that you can see at the square itself, but now the experience is starting in the garage already!
Commissioned by Bureau Binnenstad (City of Rotterdam) Mothership acted as a consultant and producer.
