Maurer United Architects
Communication, sampling, play and interaction are key concepts in the work of Maurer United Architects (MUA), the name under which husband and wife Nicole Maurer (b. 1969) and Marc (b. 1969) Maurer work as artists/architects. Anyone studying the work of MUA will quickly conclude that it practically defies categorising or labelling. The non-hierarchical, kaleidoscopic multi-layeredness of their work fits with the need to address the extreme fragmentation so characteristic of today’s culture. Although MUA’s roots are incontrovertibly in the world of architecture, most of the projects the duo have been involved in over the last few years cannot easily be measured with the architectural yardstick. Their interest focuses on the intersection of architecture and other design disciplines as well as on the crossovers between architecture and youth culture as a finger on the pulse of the age in which we live.
