The Tentstation by Melle Smets appears in the landscape like a mirage. Today's petrol station is a supermarket, coffee shop and a petrol station rolled into one. In the petrol stations along the highway, petrol, candy, soft drinks and sandwiches are brought together from all over the world through a complex production and transport system. The petrol station is the end point of one of the biggest logistic performances of human kind, and as such is at odds with our conception of nature. Tentstation interrogates our mental concepts about landscape. What is a beautiful landscape? What is authentic? Is culture part of nature, or is it the other way around?
