De Ontknopping - Atelier van Lieshout
On behalf of the city of Middleburg, Stichting Beeldende Kunst Middelburg (Visual Art Foundation Middelburg) is carrying out the project Kunst in de wijken (Art in the quarters), for which 6 artworks are being realized in dialogue with the inhabitants.
Three works have now been realized. Later this year, the artworks for the quarters Mortiere (Maze de Boer), Klarenbeek (Birthe Leemeijer) and Sint Laurens (Lara Almarcegui) will follow.
In Nieuw Middelburg an artwork by Joep van Lieshout has been realized, titled 'de ontknopping'. The suburb, the oldest one of Middelburg, is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Van Lieshout (AVL) made a colourful sculpture, inspired by the character of the area. The tree is like the old quarter, with lots of character, that has lively and resilient grown with the new quarter.
