Maze de Boer
Commissioned by the Foundation for Visual Arts Middelburg/De Vleeshal, Maze de Boer designed five monumental 1930's Shure 55 Unidyne microphones for the new residential neighbourhood Mortiere in Middelburg. The area served as an inspiration for the artwork, the pleasing 1930's architecture with street names that refer to big names in the Blues and Jazz. The five microphones adorn the entrance of the neighborhood. With a little imagination you can hear the swinging sounds of music icons such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Muddy Waters in the distance.
Commissioned by city of Middelburg and De Vleeshal, Mothership acted as advisor and producer for this project. The Visual Arts Foundation Middelburg/De Vleeshal was commissioned by the city of Middelburg to create a total of six artworks. Each neighborhood could vote for different sketch proposals, the winning proposals have been realized.
