Plantin en Moretus Viaduct
Ruwe Data & Ephameron
Graffiti tribute to Antwerp printer family
By chance, some Belgians that were passing by got caught up in the festivities of our annual Mothership party, which resulted in a nice assignment for the railway bridge on the Plantin and Moretuslei in Antwerp. Mothership asked Thijs Kelder a.k.a. Ruwe Data (NL) for a contemporary decor, who in turn wanted to work with Eva Cardon a.k.a. Ephameron (BE) whith whom he worked before in the past on art projects.
Together they designed the decoration of the viaduct and chose to seek their inspiration in the museum of 19th century printer family Plantin and Moretus after whom the viaduct is named. They applied images, typographic patterns and stencils, of people reading, book presses, flying doves, banners, a globe, family portraits of the printer family and the gentlemen Plantin and Moretus.
Commissioned by City of Antwerp, Project “Buurt aan de Beurt” and Antwerp European Youth Capital 2011, Mothership acted as curator and producer.
