Knitting-Graffiti
Marly Weemen
During the first Knitting-Graffiti on 5 November 2010 all kinds of knitted fabrics were attached to everyday objects at various places in and around the City Plaza in Nieuwegein. Forty knitting-stars got out late at night and secretly attached knitting around poles, on mannequins, fences, benches and trees in and around the mall. Knitting, crocheting and sewing: the knitting-stars prepared themselves for the big graffiti knitting. The real work of art, resembling a knitted warm winter sweater of 40m2, was fastened around the artwork 'De Krul' in the very early and very cold morning of December 1st . Designer Marly Weemen came up with the idea of graffiti-knitting.Mothership asked Marly Weemen to implement the heartwarming idea of knitting-graffiti together with locals in assignment of the department of Nieuwegein Culturele Activiteiten Binnenstad Nieuwegein.
