First Stone: 1.499.999 to go!

Friday April 15th the first mosaic stones of the immense glass mosaic ceiling were placed in the ceiling of the artwork ‘Amsterdam Oersoep’ in the Beurspassage of Amsterdam. City Council member of Art and Culture, Kajsa Ollongren, and Chairman of the Amsterdam City Centre District, Boudewijn Oranje, stepped onto a lifting ramp. Under the watchful eye of the press, artists Hans van Bentem, Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam, property developer Bouwinvest and artproducer Mothership they had the honour of placing the first stone. Actually, the first stone consists of a mat that carries 225 little mosaic stones. The total amount of mosaic stones used in the ceiling will be one million one hundred fifty thousand in total. Ollongren raised her glass in toast of the artwork: ‘a valuable addition to the city and to the center district.’ An ambition that we’ve been working on behind the scenes for a while is finally taking shape in this passage.

More information about the Artwork ‘Amsterdam Oersoep’ can be found in the this article in the Dutch newspaper Parool with BouwInvest and Mothership.

    Bobbing Photographs

Mothership not only floats trees…. As of the 29th of April, 8 photographs have been launched into Rotterdam’s Westersingel. The photographs may look familiar as they have already been exhibited in different public places across Rotterdam during ‘De Kracht van Rotterdam’ project, which translates to ‘The Power of Rotterdam’.
12 Photographers were given 24 hours to showcase their city. The winning results were exposed throughout Rotterdam and showed the people of Rotterdam a new side of their city. Because Rotterdam is celebrating 75 years of reconstruction (rotterdamviertdestad.nl) the winning photographs are now floating in the Westersingel and are accompanied by two stories written by local teenagers who participated in the project ‘Verhalen bij beelden’ which tries to stimulate youth in making their own stories instead of blindly following the visual culture. The photographs and the stories can be enjoyed in the water of the Westersingel until the end of July.

This project was commissioned by De Kracht van Rotterdam and produced by Mothership. For more information please check out www.dekrachtvanrotterdam.nl.

      We’re going on expedition

It’s slowly getting warmer which means the festival season is slowly getting started. We’re happy to be represented on that front: Rotterdam club-owner Aziz Yagoub asked Mothership to become a partner in his Expedition Festival. This dancefestival features great artists of different genres, including Róisín Murphy as this year’s headliner. This musical hotspot will take place in the Euromastpark on July 16th. If you want to know more about the specifics of this partnership, keep a close eye on our Facebook page.
